NEW TO SEALASKA HERITAGE STORE: Tlingit and Haida artist Jeffery Sheakley, a member of the Raven/ T’aḵdeintaan clan, grew up in Craig and was greatly influenced by his Tlingit and Haida Elders, artists, and tribal leaders. His art has been shaped by the balance between Western and traditional values.
Now based in Sitka, he has studied under artists including Nicholas Galanin (metal chasing), Stan Marsden (carving), Robert Davis Hoffmann (formline design), and Samuel Sheakley (engraving). He recently discovered a passion for working with precious metals and describes his art as “a personal journey of expression based on generations of traditional beauty.”
